about the artist

Norris Yim

* 1989 , Hongkong

Norris Yim, a self-taught painter, B. 1989, is a contemporary Hong Kong base artist. His main artistic work is a series of colored portraits with bleeding strokes, simple structures, and a brilliant blend of familiar and unfamiliar things. He's working on abstract portraiture with varying color thicknesses. Those abstract colors depict his dark side and mood, which serves as the foundation for the work. Nameless Statement: In response to the demands of capitalism and the associated culture of false life, individuals are forced to conceal their true identities in order to survive. Forgetting oneself becomes a means of survival, perpetuating a cycle of insincerity and fear in life. As a reflection of this societal ailment, a series of abstract portraits known as Nameless series has been emerged, conveying deep compassion and sadness towards the current state of our world. The series of Nameless carries a poetic sense of loneliness, capturing the essence of individuality through emotionally charged, abstract portraits created using different forms of pigments with dark and melancholic. Through the use of different pigments to explore the balance, maintaining an open and inclusive attitude towards materials and colours, "Nameless" serves as a reminder of the interconnectedness of human society, expressing the idea that individuals are mutually dependent, emphasizing the importance of respect and understanding towards the existence of others.
