about the artist

In his new works Felix Giesen deals with the phenomena of spatiality and depth. Due to the complex spatial design, the viewer is offered a broad and ambiguous reception surface. In order to grasp all the dimensions of the works, direct experience is indispensable; only when the images are perceived from different angles, and the complex games of both light and shadow, depth and proximity are experienced, do they reach their full potential. In addition, the series forms a conglomerate of different creative periods by drawing from sources of inspiration that are closely related to my overall work and my artistic biography; he thus consciously makes use of some artworks from past creative periods to create, as it were, a higher level of meaning through procedures of recycling and reinterpretation; this new unity of meaning is thus formed by the fact that past as well as new thoughts, impressions and ideas are conceptually combined.
