Laura Sperl works at the intersection of photography, performance, drawing and sculpture. For her, the process of observation and self-awareness plays an plays a major role, as does the interplay between distance and proximity. Many works deal with how these processes of perception manifest themselves in the physical manifest themselves in the physical and in the material. Through the use of analog as well as digital photographic techniques she inscribes bodies, drawings or surroundings into the image carrier. These image carriers are surfaces of various materials. They range from concrete, to fabric and paper, to her own skin. She always thematizes the necessity of the continual reflection of our of ourselves in a structure that changes from moment to moment and is always and recomposing itself from moment to moment. The role of the physical, of touch and movement, are explored in this context. Laura Sperl lives and works in Vienna. She studied at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Her first solo exhibition was presented at the Mutuo Gallery in Barcelona. Her works were also shown in Berlin, Zagreb, London and Vienna.
